"Animism is the foundation for the traditional African religions it is followed by 100 million. The Europeans introduced Christianity into North Africa in the 4th century and into Sub-Sahara Africa in the 15th Century, it is followed by about 340 million. Islam arrived in the 7th century  and it is followed by 285 million people"

These religions are often adapted to African cultural contexts and indigenous belief systems.
