"The Age of Progress brought great wealth, yet great poverty"

Age of Progress
The Industrial/Agricultural Revolution

1563-1908 AD

Definition Industrial Revolution A dramatic change in the ways people earned money and made goods that began in England around the mid-1800s. People went from making goods in their own homes with simple tools to making them in large-scale factories with complicated machinery. As a result, many rural regions became more urban as cities grew rapidly around the new industrial activity. Source: Ecohealth
Definition Agricultural Revolution: "The agricultural revolution produced a transformation of human society brought about by the invention of the plow, making large-scale agricultural production possible and leading to agrarian societies.
Source: The Agricultural Revoltuion

With the advent of machines and mass production the agricultural world was turned upside down. Major technological, agricultural, socioeconomic and cultural changes came to the late 18th and early 19th century. Both revolutions began in England and rapidly spread to other parts of the globe. Manual labor was replaced by automation and mechanization. People moved from the farms to the factory towns in search of work. Transportation rapidly changed with the introduction of roads, canals and railroads, so that goods could be easily moved. Every aspect of our culture was affected in some way as factories replaced the agricultural systems that dominated our society for thousands of years. Timeline
