Spanish soldiers, leaders,
explorers, and adventurers involved in the
conquest of the
Americas following the discovery of the
New World by
Christopher Columbus in 1492. The leaders of the
conquest of the
Aztec Empire were
Hernan Cortes and
Pedro de Alvarado y Contreras.
Francisco Pizarro led the conquest of the
Incan Empire."

conquered a vast region, from the southern regions and western
North America to the Cape Horn of South America. The needs and
wishes of the native populations were rarely taken into
account in their relenless drive to control this vast region.
The Conquistadors primary goals, three Gs-God (the conversion
of the natives to Christianity), Gold (the accumulation of
wealth and the power that comes with it), and Glory (the
esteem of the conquest and subjection of the New World and its
people). Their success was due, in large part, by super
weapons (guns, horses, and armor), diseases ( small pox killed
vast numbers) and the native populations belief that the
Europeans were gods. At it height the Spanish Empire
controlled 13% of the world, and 12.30% (68.2 million out of 556
million in the 17th century) of the Earth's population.
