Sick of the Bench? These 7 Tips Will Get You Back On the Court…

Tired of getting stuck on the bench while the rest of your team gets all the play time? Well, you can dramatically increase your chances to getting more play time simply by following these 7 basketball tips

Tip #1: Ask the Coach How You Can Help the Team

Coaches love it when players stop focusing on “I” and start focusing on “TEAM”. Offering to do what you can to help the team succeed will really make you stand out from the other players. This is an easy way to get more playing time!

Tip #2: Play To Your Strengths

Sure, you may want to be the team’s star free-thrower, but it might not be what you’re best at.

The trick to getting more playing time is to know what you’re good at, and focus on using your natural strengths to help the team succeed.

Tip #3: Defense, Defense, Defense

Every team needs a great basketball defense to win. After all, nothing is worse for morale then seeing the other team’s ball go through the net time after time. Want more playing time? Then get really good at shutting down opposing players and frustrating the opponent. Your coach will find ways to get you out on the court.

Tip #4: Pass To Your Teammates

Coaches and teammates alike love an unselfish player. Sure, it’s tempting to hog the ball and go for the glory yourself. But by passing the ball to your team mates and helping the team as a whole win, your worth to your coach increases ten-fold.

Basketball is a team sport. So, help lift your team mates up by sharing the ball and your coach will notice.

Tip #5: Make Yourself Visible to Your Coach

During the huddle are you lurking at the very back or are you right up front where the coach can see you?

The more visible you are, and the more you interact with questions and suggestions during huddle, the more valuable you’re going to be to your coach. So, don’t be a wallflower! Get out in front at the huddle, and make eye contact with your coach.

Tip #6: Always Work Hard

Every team has their fair share of whiners and slackers. Are you one of them?

If so, this could be a big reason why you’re not getting any playing time.

If you want out on the court during a game, you have to prove to your coach that you want it. You have to work hard, and hustle during practice.

Our tip: play in practice just as hard as you would a real championship game. Your coach will notice your hard work and charisma.

Tip #7: Take Charges

Charging is a great way to raise your worth in the eyes of your coach. Taking a charge not only provides a defensive stop, but it also gets your team the ball as well as giving the opposing team an additional foul.

Plus, a charge can really take the wind out of the other team’s sails. Why? Well, they’ll be afraid to drive the ball for fear of picking up another foul.

All good things.
