"I think children need a certain amount of rules. They need to brush their teeth, otherwise their teeth fall out, right? It is a kind of known thing. And children need to do their homework because it's part of their education." Tracey Emin

How To Make Homework
Successful!

Definition: Homework
  1. Work, such as schoolwork or piecework, that is done at home.
  2. Preparatory or preliminary work: did their homework before coming to the meeting Source: Answer.com
Homework tips:
1. Keep a running list of your assignments. ASK THE TEACHER IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT!
2. Don't procrastinate.
3. Have the tools (pens, pencils, paper, textbook, calculator etc.) ready to use.
4. Provide yourself with a proper place to work.
5. Do the toughest tasks first
6. Eat before you start your work.
7. Keep positive thoughts while working.

Below are some tips:

The Textbook:

  Understand its' parts...
       The Cover- protects the pages.
       The Pages-is the informational heart.
The Table of Contents- tells you were to find the information inside.
The Glossary-defines the words used in the text.
       The Atlas-(Geography/History), provides maps.
The Gazetteer-(Geography) provides details on geographic regions.
The Index- tells you were to find the information.
Some books have specialized pages in the back for graphs, charts, etc.

The Homework Assignment .....

1. The homework assignment is given to reinforce your daily work or to prepare you for the following day.
2. Read the assignments fully.
3. Answer any questions you already know.
4. Do the hardest assignment first.
5. Think positive! Don't get overwhelmed before you start.
6. Get organized! Don't get the papers mixed up. Use a notebook and enter the work in sections as you finish them.
7. Don't just scan, read the assignment !  The headings and subheadings are clues to the information.
8. If the book belongs to you, underline the important parts with a yellow highlighter.  You can also write notes on the side of the page. If the book does not belong to you, make notes on a separate sheet. 9. Most public schools frown on you marking in their text and it may cost you money
10. Periodically take a short brake, yawn, stretch and come alive. Sometimes leaving a question for a short time helps.
 11. Ask for help from your parents, older brother sand sisters, and classmates. Don't be shy. Check the web sites provided on this web page!
12. Turn the assignment in on time.

If sports or after school work is preventing you from your homework, think seriously about your priorities. If work is hampering you, consider changing your hours, getting a different more flexible job or not working at all.  Adult education may be the answer, if work is vital. Classes are more flexible and you might find students just like you.  Talk to your coach, if sports is the problem, and see what is available (some schools actually offer tutoring sessions).

Remember education is the key to opening many locked doors.
