“My political curiosity,
exclusive of my anxious solicitude for the public welfare,
leads me to ask who authorized them (the framers of the
Constitution) to speak the language of ‘We, the People,’
instead of ‘We, the States’?” Patrick
Henry, 1788 (Orations of American
Orators) |

America entered the world of the 18th
century as one of the first Democratic/Republic countries.
She had to deal with settling the Native American situation
to her north, south and west, along with negotiating her
relationships with the other countries of the world.
Internally America needed to establish her own traditions in
government, culture, economics and social systems. |
