Tips on Parenting
Here are some tips I have learned  that could help you along this path.

The Little Ones. Birth to Kindergarten:
 

  1. A time when life begins.
  2. Love them unconditionally.
  3. Set boundaries. Borders give comfort.
  4. Be consistent! Confusion breeds chaos
  5. Talk often!
  6. Listen often!
  7. Be a parent.
  8. Read to and with them.
  9. Let them read to you.
  10. Provide reading materials.
  11. Limit TV.
  12. The first report card is yours.

Bubble Gum Years: Kindergarten to Middle School
 
  1. A time of great excitement and expectations.
  2. Talk to their teachers.
  3. Take them to new places.
  4. Encourage them.
  5. Make them proud to be in your family.
  6. Involve them.
  7. Help them with a hobby.
  8. Show them pet responsibility.
  9. Show genuine interest in them.
  10. Be a positive roll model.
  11. Be honest with them.
  12. Love them.
  13. Shelter them.
  14. Feed them.
  15. Cuddle them.
  16. Support them.
  17. Laugh and play with them.
Those Crazy Years: The Middle Schoolers
 
  1. A time of great change and growth.
  2. Be patient, it will be different.
  3. Have no expectations, they don't.
  4. Know their friends and their families.
  5. Know where they are and with whom.
  6. Pray a lot, you and they are going to need it.
  7. Be home with them.
  8. Monitor their computer use.
  9. Have frank open discussions on everything.
  10. Listen to how it is said more than what.
  11. Stay involved.
  12. Keep them involved.
  13. Be aware of drastic changes.
What do I do Now Years: High School
  1. Give them space.
  2. Let them give you space.
  3. Keep limited boundaries.
  4. Allow them to fail.
  5. Let them know you will be there.
  6. Let them feel they can be there for you.
  7. Listen to them for content.
  8. Be their friend, confident, and mentor.
  9. Don't demand college (not everyone should go).
  10. It's their dreams not yours.
  11. Its their life not yours.
  12. They can be impulsive.
  13. They do have homework.
  14. You can give homework.
  15. Reinforce responsibility.
  16. A car is not necessarily what they need.
  17. They are not too old to be disciplined.
  18. Let them know you love them, and allow them to love you.
