Since our founding, the
United States has been a
beacon to the world, for
those who wanted to make a
new life for themselves and
their family. In the early
days of our republic, we
have had Native Americans
and immigrants mostly from
Europe with many others
arriving as slaves from
Africa. As time pasted many
more have arrived from Asia,
the Middle East, the
Caribbean, Mexico, South
America and numerous
islands. The Statue of
Liberty proudly proclaims "Give
me your tired, your
poor.Your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free,The
wretched refuse of your
teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless,
tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the
golden door!".Thus
many individuals and
families have seen this as
beacon encouraging them to
come to our great nation.
However many of chosen to
arrive by many means (some
of them illegal). Our laws
need to be updated so those
wishing admittance can gain
legal residence and those
already here can gain
residence legally thru due
process. Threat, force and
intimidation should never be
used on any immigrant! |
