There are an estimated 2,000
languages spoken in
Africa[1]
About a hundred of these are widely used for inter-ethnic communication.
They fall into four major linguistic families:
Afro-Asiatic stretches from
North Africa to the
Horn of Africa and
Southwest Asia;
Nilo-Saharan is centered on
Sudan and
Chad;
Niger-Congo covers
West,
Central, and
Southeast Africa; and
Khoe is concentrated in the deserts of
Namibia
and
