Latin American History
30000 BC-1824AD

Latin America consists of all the nations south of the Rio Grande in the western hemisphere. It was once home to three great civilizations, the Mayans, Aztecs and Inca. They had very rich cultures with large cities, vibrant economies, and deep seated religions. After 1492 they became the target of Spanish exploitation and soon were subjugated by Cortez and Pizarro. Their ancestors still exist today but a great deal of their history and culture was lost. Latin America today strives to improve the life of its people and to find its place in the family of nations. Time Line

Pre-Conquest
Prior to the arrival of the Spanish and Portugal, Latin America was populated with a variety of natives whose development ranged from highly advanced to primitive.
