Resources
Middle Easterners are one of the fastest growing immigrant groups in America. While the size of the overall immigrant population (legal and illegal) has tripled since 1970, the number of immigrants from the Middle East has grown more than seven-fold, from fewer than 200,000 in 1970 to nearly 1.5 million in 2000. "American Jews, also known as Jewish Americans, are Americans who are also Jews. Population estimates vary; most surveys, the majority of which treat "Jewish" as a religious group, range from 5.2 million[1] to 6.4 million, [2] The population of ethnically Jewish people in the United States is not certain. Nonetheless, the overall Jewish population of the United States either the largest or second-largest in the world after Israel. The American Jewish community is composed mostly of Ashkenazi Jews,[6] but there are also Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews, along with other Jewish ethnic divisions, encompassing a wide range of spiritual beliefs, from the ultra-Orthodox Haredi communities to Jews who are entirely secular."
