"God writes the gospel
not in the Bible alone, but on trees, and flowers, and clouds, and stars." Martin Luther
Reformation
When Martin Luther posted
his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Church he set in
motion a movement that permanently shattered the solidarity of the
Catholic Church. That document attacked papal abuses and the sale of
indulgences by many church officials. Soon other religious figures joined
his revolt and the church was divided between Protestants and Catholic.
Wars developed and Europe became a battle ground in the name of God, until
it came to an end with the Edict of Nantes in 1598.
